Reviews
As trailed here on Google reviews, an intriguing but pleasant place for a pint. Very quiet when I visited on a Sunday evening; staff were welcoming enough and offered a Sam smiths selection which was fine. The main draw here is the oddity of the building, but I’m genuinely drawn back by the quiet, warm and inviting atmosphere.
My favourite pub in London. The manager, Parima is lovely and very welcoming. I have visit the pub with my friends frequently and she made our stays amazing.
Not a fan of pub food but I enjoyed most things on the menu. Great choices of beverages as expected from a traditional pub.
Great location just outside the underground. Plenty of picnic table seating outside for the summer. Inside is a bit dark but has all the traditional pub ambience. The landlord keeps a couple of beers at a lower price ( a bitter and a larger). Much appreciated! I haven’t tried the food but it’s a regular pub for me when I’m in the area.
I live locally and came here for the first time on Easter Sunday. People will probably be expecting more since the area is the namesake of this pub and is iconic, but it’s an interesting one. You could look at it as a tired, quiet, depressing pub with no atmosphere, or a nice, old, cosy pub with quiet refuge from the hustle and bustle of outside.
It’s rare to walk into a pub of this size and location on a Sunday and have only half a dozen people drinking quietly and playing chess.
Customers came in enquiring about the football and rarer beers but were turned away — very unusual these days but I actually respect it.
Choice of beers isn’t too good, being a Samuel Smith pub, and I didn’t try the food, but worth a visit if you want some quiet contemplation and relaxing chat. It’s a super busy area, so somewhere with no music thumping, no tv sport blaring and no loud conversations blabbering is welcome.
It’s a no frills, old boy pub. Some will find it disappointing and others will find it just what they need.
The interior of the pub is very cosy and the staff are polite and helpful. The food is good and tasty . On sunday there was live music ( jazz ) . There's park available but needs to pay for the time u staying. After 6pm its free on the residential area . Lovely place to spent with family or friends .Recommend it
Famous pub that gave its name to the surrounding district of London and its tube station. Only the ground floor is accessible these days, but that is a spacious area for eating traditional pub food and drinking (Samuel Smith beers etc.). Small beer garden outside is popular on sunny days.
Quiet old pub, nice staff, cool atmosphere , great drinks
Such a peculiar Alpine House placed in between of two busy avenues and a rush environment. Inside the pub the decor is quite cosy with regular wooden walls and leather sits. Some of the furniture needs to be refurbish or changed, but is comfortable. The staff is very sympathetic and alert. Good beers, but the cider was a little warm. The plates are quite big and worth the price. The outside are is a must depending on the weather.
